Privacy notice

We built this site to help, not to harvest data. We collect as little as we can, we never sell it, and we treat the fact that you are here as private. Here is exactly what happens to your information.

Who we are

Insider Guide is run by Key Twelve Ltd, a company registered in England and Wales. We are the data controller for this website. You can reach us at hello@insiderguide.uk.

The short version

• You can use every tool and read every guide without giving us anything.
• The calculators run in your browser. The sentence details you type are not sent to us or stored.
• We only hold your email address if you choose to sign up for updates, and you can leave any time.
• We use privacy-friendly analytics that do not track you or use cookies.
• We never sell or share your details, and we never pass your information to the prison, the police or anyone else, unless the law forces us to.

The calculators and tools

Our calculators (release dates, sentences, call costs and the rest) work entirely on your own device. Anything you type into them stays in your browser and is not sent to us or saved anywhere. When you use the "share this result" button, the details are put into a web link that you choose to send. We never see it.

If you sign up for email updates

If you enter your email in one of our sign-up boxes, we use it to send you the updates described there: an alert when the prison rules change, and a short round-up every few months. That is all.

• How it works: we use an email company called MailerLite to manage the list and send the emails. After you sign up, they send you a confirmation email, and you are only added if you click to confirm.
• Our lawful basis is your consent. You give it by signing up and confirming, and you can withdraw it at any time.
• Leaving is easy: every email has an unsubscribe link, or you can email us and we will remove you.
• We keep your email only until you unsubscribe or ask us to delete it.

We understand that being on this list can suggest you have a connection to someone in prison. We treat the list as confidential, store nothing about why you signed up, and never use it for anything except the updates above.

Analytics

To see which pages help people, we use Cloudflare Web Analytics. It is designed to be privacy-first: it does not use cookies, does not follow you around the web, and does not build a profile of you. It only gives us anonymous, aggregate numbers, such as how many people viewed a page. Because of this, we do not need to show you a cookie pop-up.

Hosting and security

The site is hosted by Cloudflare. Like any web host, their systems keep standard technical logs (such as the internet address a request came from) for a short time to keep the site secure and working. Our lawful basis for this is our legitimate interest in a safe, reliable website.

Who handles your data for us

These are the only companies that process data through this site:

• Cloudflare, for hosting and privacy-friendly analytics.
• MailerLite, for the email list, but only if you sign up.

Both are established providers with their own privacy and security commitments.

Your rights

Under UK data protection law you have the right to:

• ask what information we hold about you,
• ask us to correct or delete it,
• unsubscribe from emails at any time,
• object to or restrict how we use it.

To use any of these, email hello@insiderguide.uk. If you are unhappy with how we handle your data, you can complain to the Information Commissioner's Office, the UK regulator.

Children

This site is written for adults supporting someone in prison. It is not aimed at children, and we do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 13.

Changes to this notice

If we change how we handle data, we will update this page and change the date at the top.
